Stairs, lifts, booking windows

Apartment and unit moves in Fairfield

Nearly half the homes in central Fairfield are units, and in Cabramatta and Carramar it is more than half. So a unit move is not our exception, it is our Tuesday. The whole trick is planning the access before the day, not discovering it on the stairs.

Two movers angling a sofa up the external stairwell of a 1970s red-brick walk-up
The classic 2165 walk-up: three storeys, no lift, one landing to turn a sofa on. We know it well.

The two kinds of unit move

The walk-up. The older red-brick blocks around Fairfield, Carramar and Cabramatta: two or three storeys, external stairs, no lift. The questions that matter are how many flights, how tight the landings turn, and what the biggest piece is. A sofa that will not turn a landing goes over the balcony rail with straps, done calmly by people who have done it a hundred times, or it does not go that way at all. We will tell you which honestly.

The lift building. The newer blocks near the station. Most want the lift booked through the building manager, protection curtains up, and a set window for the truck in the loading dock. We handle that conversation if you give us the manager's details, and we work inside the window like professionals, because we would like to be let back in next time.

Renting? Most of our unit moves are end-of-lease days. We wrote a checklist for the access questions worth answering before the day, and it prints on one page: lifts, stairs and booking windows.

How the day runs

  1. Access confirmed before the day. Lift or stairs, where the truck stands, and whether the building wants paperwork.
  2. Protection first. Lift curtains if the building needs them, corner guards on the tight turns.
  3. Wrapped at the door. Furniture is blanketed inside the unit, then carried in steady runs. The hallway carpet stays clean.
  4. Loaded in order. So the unload at the other end starts with beds, not bookshelves.

What it costs

Most one and two bedroom units fit 2 movers and 1 truck at $250 per hour. Serious solid timber plus stairs, or a big three-bedroom unit, and we will suggest 3 movers and 1 truck at $350 per hour, and tell you why in plain words. One rate per crew, weekday or weekend, in writing before the day.
