The lead job

Local family moves in Fairfield

A short move is not a small job. The dining setting that seats fourteen, going fifty metres to the new flat out the back, still takes four careful hands, the right trolley and a crew that treats the piece like it is staying in the family for another forty years. That move is our bread and butter.

The narrow strip driveway is half the job. We walk it before we lift anything.

The moves that fill our week

The flat out the back. A parent or grandparent moving into the new granny flat, or the adult kids taking the flat while the folks keep the house. Everything heavy goes out one door, down the side of the block and in another door thirty metres away. We wrote up exactly how that day runs in the granny flat move guide.

The two-street move. From the unit near the station to the house near the school, or the reverse. Same suburb, same afternoon, and the truck still earns its keep: one careful load instead of eleven ute trips and a borrowed trailer with no straps.

The heavy pieces only. The marble table, the wall unit, the fridge going to a cousin in Canley Vale. No boxes, just the things nobody in the family should be lifting. We bring the blankets, the trolley and the straps, and it is done in a couple of hours.

Heavy, permanent furniture is its own craft. Solid timber, marble and glass get wrapped where they stand and carried on a planned path, never walked blind. Here is exactly how we do it.

How we run a short move

  1. We talk it through first. You tell us what is going and how we get it out. We ask about the driveway, the stairs and the heaviest piece, and we agree the crew size honestly. If two movers will do it, we say so.
  2. The path is walked before anything is lifted. Doorways measured by eye, tight turns spotted, floors and frames covered where the carry is tight.
  3. Heavy pieces go first. While backs are fresh and the light is good. Boxes and small things follow.
  4. Everything lands where it is wanted. Beds together, the fridge running, the table set where it will stay. Not a pile in the carport.

What it costs

Most short local moves fit 2 movers and 1 truck at $250 per hour. When there is serious solid timber and stairs in the same job, we will suggest 3 movers and 1 truck at $350 per hour, because a third pair of hands on the heavy pieces is safer and usually faster overall. One rate per crew, weekday or weekend. We put the crew and the rate in writing before the day.

Where we do it

Fairfield, Fairfield Heights, Fairfield West, Canley Vale, Canley Heights, Cabramatta, Carramar, Villawood, Smithfield, Bossley Park and the streets between. If you are a suburb past that, ask anyway. The truck does not mind.
